Global automakers are aggressively aiming at growth in India's underdeveloped SUV market. Here are the top ten SUVs that are currently sizzling Indian roads.


Mahindra XUV500


The Mahindra XUV500 is undeniably the most admired SUV in India today. Demand is so soaring that Mahindra had to close bookings for the time being. The look inspired by cheetah and high feature list makes it very attractive. Powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine which produces 140 BHP and 330 Nm, the XUV500 range starts at 11.10 lakhs.



Mahindra Scorpio


Mahindra Scorpio is the second most popular SUV. The car offers butch looks and a very responsive 2.2-litre diesel engine producing 120 BHP and 290 Nm, the Scorpio has turned Mahindra's fortunes for the better. The price of Scorpio starts at 7.52 lakhs.










Toyota Fortuner


Indisputably the SUV which came and quiver everyone else, the Toyota Fortuner might use the same IMV platform as the Innova but has enormous street presence. Power comes in from a 3.0-litre diesel engine which produces 170 BHP and 343 Nm. Its range starts at 19.99 lakhs.




 Tata Safari


Though Tata Safari is one of the oldest cars in India, it is still a hot favorite among SUV lovers. A modernized version known as the Safari Storme will be launched next month, which is a facelift of the existing Safari. The 2.2-litre diesel engine of the Safari produces 140 BHP and 320 Nm. The current Safari range starts at 8.06 lakhs


BMW X1


The BMW X1 has come up with an all new section. It became the entry point to a BMW vehicle with prices starting at 22.40 lakhs for the sDrive18i variant. Powered by 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines that produce 150 BHP, 200 Nm and 177 BHP, 350 Nm respectively, the X1 has a major chunk of BMW sales in India.


Ford Endeavour


Ford's Endeavour was one of the best selling SUVs till the Fortuner came into picture. The Endeavour's enormous street charisma and dominant engine attracted quite a few. Power comes in from 2.5-litre and 3.0-litre diesel engines which produce 141 BHP, 330 NM and 154 BHP, 380 Nm respectively. Prices start at 17.84 lakhs.


Hyundai Santa Fe


The Hyundai Santa Fe has achieved massive fame in just a few months time; credit goes to the wide spread Hyundai network and tremendously powerful diesel engine, which produces 197 BHP and 420 Nm mammoth torque from its 2.2-litre engine. The car starts at 22.34 lakhs


Skoda Yeti


When Yeti was launched by Skoda, many found it expensive. But the company was fast to act in response with lower priced variants. The Yeti is a very competent compact SUV, powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine which is available in two set of tunes producing 110 BHP, 250 Nm and 140 BHP, 326 Nm. Soda Yeti’s prices start at 13.90 lakhs



Audi


Audi has dashed past Mercedes-Benz in sales and is targetting BMW. The Q range of SUVs (Q5 and Q7) accounts for the most important chunk of the company's sales in India. The Audi Q5 comes with three engines but the most popular variant is the 2.0-litre TDI, which produces 170 BHP and 350 Nm. The car’s prices start at 39.44 lakhs.


Range Rover Evoque


There is a very little doubt that this SUV from Land Rover is the hottest vehicle in the world right now as tons of awards are going the Range Rover Evoque's way. The stunning looks along with the go anywhere capability makes the Evoque so attractive. Power comes in from a 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel which produce 237 BHP, 340 Nm and 187 BHP, 420 NM respectively. Evoque’s prices start at 45 lakhs.
